As a former art educator, I have strong skills in empathizing, data collection and analysis, and creative problem-solving. My Story
I am Latina born and raised in the Bronx, NY. Being part of a big family, I often found myself with the responsibility of caring for my younger siblings. Through drawing and painting I found I could express my voice and feelings in the busyness of my childhood home. My passion for art led me to study Fine Arts and obtained a BA at Fairleigh Dickinson University. There I also found a passion for helping others and educational inequity. I later obtained a MAT in Education and shortly joined Teach for America and relocated to Miami,FL where I taught various students varying in age and ability.
As a teacher I strived to create student-centered lesson plans to engage students so they can reach personal levels of success. In order to do this I had to intimately know my students; their interest, their limitations, and their needs. So I built relationships with them, their parents, carefully reviewed IEP's and 504 plans, and collected data on their knowledge/skill through formal and informal assessments. My efforts were all to create engaging lessons that were best for my students to find personal levels of success.
When the world shut down in 2020 I was faced with a logistical problem I did not expect in my career. How do I engage students and teach art online? Or social with distancing? As I turned to technology as a tool to solve this problem by; recording myself drawing assignments step by step and providing QR codes, taking students through virtual art tours, and making digital assessments, I began to reflect on how truly impactful technology can be. Small intentional designs can completely transform not only how students can learn, but how someone approaches their health, or how easily they can book a vacation or how they interact with friends and family, the list of possibility is endless.
My transition to UX Design is a natural progression of my lifelong passion and commitment to helping others. I believe in a human-centered approach to solving problems andI want to create/develop innovative technology that helps people in their daily lives.
